Our Hiring Process
- Stage 1
Application Review
Once we've received your application, a member of our hiring team will review it to ensure it has the materials we requested and generally matches the experience or qualifications we're seeking for the role.
- Stage 2
Video Interview
Selected candidates will be invited to schedule a 30-40-minute video interview with a member of our hiring team for the role.
- Stage 3
Panel Interview
After the 1:1 interview, selected candidates will be invited to schedule a 75-minute in-person or remote panel interview with 3-5 members of our team.
- Stage 4
Additional Assessment
Some roles will have an additional step in the hiring process. This could be another panel interview, an informal conversation with key stakeholders, a skills demonstration, writing test, or something else. Candidates will not be asked to invest more time than the usual length of an interview and will not be given any real SJLF assignments to complete.
- Stage 5
Reference Check & Additional Information
All applicants will be asked to provide three professional references, including at least two current or former supervisors.
- Stage 6
Background & Conflicts Checks
The background check will be processed using an external agency and will review driving, county, state, and federal criminal records and verify candidates’ education, employment, and professional license(s) information. Candidates may request a copy of their background check from the external agency.
The conflicts check will be processed by our internal team to ensure we comply with the applicable rules of professional responsibility. We obtain conflict waivers to address conflicts of interest when possible, but we are a small team, and we may not be able to overcome all conflicts of interest. If you think your current or prior work may create a conflict, or if you are concerned SJLF may not be able to secure a conflict waiver, please notify us as soon as possible during the hiring process.
- Stage 7
Final Offer
When the top candidate has cleared background and conflicts checks, they will be sent a final offer. The offer will confirm the compensation information and note the start date, along with other details. We encourage the candidate to ask any questions they might have about the organization, the offer, or the role.
